victorian government complicit in pfas coverup
14/10/2023
With a recent change in Labor leadership, will the new premier, Jacinta Allan, and her cabinet come out of the shadows and do right by the people challenging the Australia Federal Government for their lack of leadership on PFAS management? Time for Victoria to lead to protect the human health and the environment.
First, ensure ministers and department heads have integrity as ALL of government is accountable to the Victoria people.

VICTORIAN GOVERNMENTS POSITION ON PFAS
I stated earlier this year, and it is still the case -
Human health in just not on the radar for the government as PFAS is invisible with negative health and environmental health issues only supported by health data and credible PFAS monitoring in the environment (the evidence which does not exist). This is deliberate but connecting the dots for the information that is there exposes the coverup.
The federal government remit is one of inaction therefore the Victorian Government are dangerously compliant, lazy and deliberately misleading which is illegal and yet to be played out in the courts.
The Victorian Environmental Protection Authority (VicEPA) is the agency tasked with managing PFAS on behalf of the government but is not guided by a national EPA rather appears to be guided by a small click in government and other powerful entities intent of continuing the coverup for PFAS effects.
- the current position by the Victorian Government is that PFAS is everywhere & just too hard to manage therefore the do-nothing mantra and outdated information is still applied.

- The federal government set the guidance framework for PFAS management based on agreed state input. Was a sweetener offered to ensure states being compliant?
- The states apply discretionary advice from that which is supposed to provide environmental and human health protection.
- The state of knowledge that applies to everyone else does not apply to state EPAs.
- will he continue the coverup from the previous ministers or show leadership.
- Will he be the fall guy or the hero???

To the Victorian government Ministers
Given the 2015 Fiskville Inquiry you would think the Victoria government would be more alert and accountable to the dangers of ongoing PFAS exposures. Unfortunately, the total mismanagement of PFAS chemicals can be see on the PFAS stockpile page.

The 2015 Fiskville Inquiry set the precedence exposing PFAS for the hazardous chemical it is.
Firefighters died from cancers as a result of being exposed to PFAS AFFF fire retardant at Fiskville, they are still dying. Yet this inquiry has not informed any positive action by the Victorian Government - NOTHING.

- Why is it that other PFAS contaminated areas around Victoria are somehow different, not important, easily shut down with deliberately misleading and outdated health advice?
- A farmer impacted by heavy PFAS contamination gets no recognition but firefighters do. Explain how a farmer can have the same occupational exposures levels of PFAS in their blood as firefighters when they live and work on the land?
- Why do the Victorian Labor Government think it acceptable that the general population don't have a right to know the food they purchase and the products they purchase for their families could be contaminated with PFAS?
- How is EPA's General Environmental Duty (GED) reducing risk exposures to PFAS contamination when government are facilitating the on-selling of PFAS contaminated livestock, dairy and food produce? It appears the GED has more to do with protecting the polluter than the people.
- Why is the health department so silent on PFAS health issues - what does the local health data say in heavily contaminated areas?
- What are the correlations between PFAS associated health issues in these areas - thyroid, diabetes, low birth weights, cancers and higher mortality data?
- Why isn't WorkSafe Victoria providing up to date PFAS exposure advice for workers and neighbours of industry based on the American model, after all, this agency should be serving and protecting the people, not be a puppet of industry?
slashing protective legislation
How can we move forward to solve the increased reliance on chemicals while avoiding the elephant in the room that they are killing us once they get into the food chain?
Australia cannot continue with the lies on PFAS impacts as new international regulatory PFAS standards and classifications are moving quickly and more stricter.
Time to reset the dangerous and irresponsible messaging and let Victoria take the lead over the rest of Australia.
Time to protect the ALL THE PEOPLE.
